SHRI M.B. RAJESH (PALAKKAD): I would like to draw the attention of this august House towards a long pending demand of completion of gauge conversion between Palakkad and Pollachi. The work was started in 2008. Though Railways had set timelines several times, they failed to achieve the same. The delay has caused huge cost escalation and consequent financial burden to the Railways. This delay has also caused unfold miseries to the people because this is one of the busiest lines since this connects two States, that is, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Hence, I urge upon the Government to closely monitor the progress of this project and take immediate steps to ensure that this gauge conversion is completed without any further delay.
