Request To Take Immediate Action Against The Police Officials' Atrocities ... on 9 August, 2000

Title: Request to take immediate action against the police officials"" excess against the Akhil Bharaitya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers demonstrating for according permission to Plus Two courses in Kerala.

SHRI PON RADHAKRISHNAN (NAGERCOIL): Mr. Deputy-Speaker, Sir, through you, I would like to draw the attention of the Government on this issue.

In Kerala, in the issue of allotment of plus two courses, the UDF alliance and the students union, ABVP, took various agitations.

On July 12, ABVP organised a march towards the Secretariat in Trivandrum and it was very peaceful. But, without any reason, the activists were brutally lathicharged by the police.

ABVP State President, Shri Unnikrishnan, Vice-President, Shri Suresh, Kumari Sindmol, Kumari Anjana, Asha, Sridevi and others were seriously injured and girls were brutally beaten even while going to hospital.

On July 13, another march was organised to condemn the lathicharge on female activists. When the march was taking place in front of the Secretariat, some CPM workers and the mufti policemen sneaked in and made the peaceful march into a violent one.

These anti-social elements, in a planned manner, damaged the public property and the vehicles of the media persons.

This high-handed action is highly condemnable. But, till today, no proper action has been taken.

Therefore, I humbly request the Government to take an immediate action against the officials and the police persons. An Enquiry Commission should be instituted to probe the excess unleashed by the police and the anti-social elements and also against the rampant corruption and foul play in the matter of according permission to plus two courses to the selected schools of their choice.
