Section 16 in The Merchant Shipping (Registration of Indian Ships) Rules, 1960
16. Registry anew at ship's port.
(1)Where an application is made to the registrar of a ship's port of registry for registry of alterations and the alterations are such that the ship should be registered anew, the registrar shall call for the certificate of registry and also the declaration of ownership from the owner.(2)Where a ship is registered anew, the original certificate of registry shall be cancelled, the existing entries in the register in respect of the ship shall be closed and new entries made bringing forward the outstanding encumbrances on the ship.(3)The original official number allotted to the ship shall be retained.
