SHRI KASHIRAM RANA (SURAT): Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial is being developed at Karamsad, in District Anand, Gujarat. A great patriot Sardar Patel aroused the national spirit of the country. He wanted India to be free, strong and united. All his actions including his outstanding achievement of integration of Princely States sprung from this central aim. He was a magnanimous, large hearted man, full of wit and wisdom. He also has organizational abilities. He loved Gujarat and India and displayed respect for the heritage of our country without being parochial. He is often referred to as an Iron-Man. To commemorate and preserve the memory of Sardar Patel and Veer Vithhal, a unique Joint memorial of both brothers is being developed at Karmasad. At present the information on the life and works of both brothers is scattered at many places, archives and with many individuals. The Memorial proposes to remove this lacuna by setting up a National Resource Centre wherein published, unpublished and archival material including letters, audio and visual material will be brought at one place for preservation, retrieval and dissemination. The ultimate aim is to develop the Memorial into a vibrant and Multinational Institution. To make the Memorial fully operational, additional facilities such as Audio-visual equipment, Digital/Virtual Library equipment, Computers and Networking equipment, office equipment and furniture will be required. The total cost of these equipments and facilities is estimated at Rs. 107 lakhs. For maintenance and development of Memorial, a Corpus Fund of Rs. 5.00 crores is required. The Government of Gujarat has forwarded a proposal to Ministry of Culture vide letter No. SJU/102002/M-3/F, dated 09.11.2006 to sanction Corpus Fund of Rs. 5.00 Crores for maintenance of Trust.
I urge upon the Govt, to sanction Corpus fund of Rs. 5.00 Crores immediately.
