Seventeenth Loksabha > Title: Regarding the appointment of a regular Vice Chancellor in Manipur University.
DR. R.K. RANJAN (INNER MANIPUR): Thank you very much, Sir, for giving me opportunity to speak during ‘Zero Hour’ and also letting me speak in Manipuri at least once in a Session.
*Sir, for giving me an opportunity in Zero Hour; and also please let me speak in Manipuri at least once in a Session.
When I was a research scholar I myself was part of the endeavor to set up Manipur University.
Then in the University I was teaching as a faculty member, then I was the Registrar, Director UGC Academic Staff College and later I also served as Director College Development Council.
Manipur University which was established in 1980 became a Central University in 2005. After all it was a good university. But at present we don’t know what is the position today. Nearly for about three to four years the University has been running without a regular Vice Chancellor and in fact it compromises the academic sanctity of the University. Along with this our rank has gone down drastically.
For about a month ago we heard that the Search Committee had identified probable candidates eligible to become Vice Chancellor. And we also heard that an interview had also been conducted. But, so far it is not made public. So, my humble opinion is expressed through you Sir, requesting the Hon. Education Minister to appoint a regular Vice Chancellor of Manipur University at the earliest and make it a good academic University. Jai Hind.
