1. The affidavits of the respondents are not on record.

2. Mr. Karan Prakash, learned counsel for respondent No. 1 - Jawaharlal Nehru University ["JNU"], submits that the affidavit has been filed. A copy thereof has been handed over in Court and is taken on record.

3. According to Mr. Prakash, the relief sought by the petitioners has not been granted owing to directions of respondent No. 2 - University Grants Commission ["UGC"], copies of which are annexed to the writ petition.

4. Mr. Abhik Chimni, learned counsel for the petitioners, however, submits that the directions of UGC are inconsistent with the judgment of the Supreme Court in University of Delhi v. Shashi Kiran [(2022) 15 SCC 325] and with the Division Bench of this Court in Jawaharlal Nehru University v. Manoj Pant & Ors. [LPA 448/2022, decided on 27.07.2022].

5. Unfortunately, respondent No. 2 - UGC has not entered appearance despite service. Service be effected upon UGC through Mr. Parmanand Gaur, learned Standing Counsel, who is requested to take instructions and file an affidavit within two weeks from today, expressly setting out the distinction between the present case and the judgments referred to above.
