(1)This Act may be called the Juvenile Justice Act, 1986.(2)It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir.(3)It shall come into force on such [date] [The Act has been brought into force from 2.10.1987. See Gazette of India, Part II, Section 3(i) Extraordinary, page 2, dated 13.8.1987 (No.420).] as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint, and different dates may be appointed for different provisions of this Act and for different States.
