SUSHRI NUSRAT JAHAN RUHI (BASIRHAT): Good afternoon to all my hon. colleagues and very good afternoon, Mr. Speaker, Sir. This is my first speech like my friend and colleague, Ms. Mimi.
Sir, I thank you for giving me this opportunity to raise a matter of urgent public importance during ‘Zero Hour’. I really thank you and I feel honoured.
My concern is to construct and start a Kendriya Vidyalaya in my Basirhat parliamentary constituency. There is no doubt that the Kendriya Vidyalayas are playing a pivotal role in imparting quality education in the country with uniform curriculum and the performance of these schools is really appreciable.
Sir, I would request the Government to kindly expedite setting up a Kendriya Vidyalaya in my Basirhat parliamentary constituency of West Bengal. Basirhat is a border area where central employees are on vigil all through 24x7. Moreover, there are thousands of ex-servicemen families residing in and around Basirhat but within 60 kilometre radius, there is no Kendriya Vidyalaya.
The entire part of my Parliamentary Constituency is backward with 86.81 per cent of rural population and 13.19 per cent of urban population. The ratio of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes population is 25.34 per cent and 6.56 per cent respectively. People here cannot afford to send their children to public schools because of their low income.
Therefore, I would like to sincerely request the Government to kindly expedite setting up of a Kendriya Vidyalaya and start the session from the next academic year. It is of utmost importance.
