SHRI PRALHAD JOSHI (DHARWAD): In Hubballi Railway station, Karnataka there was a building about 90 years old in which railway parcel office and Railway Police office was functioning. On 8th of this month, this building collapsed suddenly and about eight people who were working in the premises died including two outsiders who had come to take delivery of parcels. This was the most unfortunate incident in the history of Hubballi Railway Station and Hubballi city. It is reported that there are many such railway buildings in the region of South Western Railway Zone and in other party of the country. I urge the railway administration to constitute a committee to indentify such old structures posing danger to the lives of the people and replace all of them with new buildings. I would also like to bring to the notice of the Government that the unfortunate collapse of Hubballi Railway building is attributed to the negligence of local railway authorities as per the public is attributed and the Press in Hubballi. As per the documents, it appears to be a fact that the concerned railway engineers had issued notice to the concerned authorities stating that this building was unsafe for human dwelling. Even after 4 days of this notice the offices were functioning in the premises till 8th February, the day the structure collapsed. This needs a thorough enquiry.
