Need To Enhance The Quota Of Rice And Wheat Sold Through Pds In Kerala. on 4 March, 2008

>   Title: Regarding need to enhance the quota of rice and wheat sold through PDS in Kerala.

SHRIMATI C.S. SUJATHA (MAVELIKARA): The prices of essential commodities are on the rise particularly of the food grains across the country. Kerala being a food deficit state, the pressure of price rise affects it more. The prices of Rice and Wheat have been on the rise and there is even scarcity of food grains in the market. The reduction in allotment of APL rice to the State has been a major reason for the unprecedented higher prices. The Government has reduced the allotment from 1,13,420 MT to 21,334 MT thereby causing a shortage of 92,086 MT for monthly distribution. Like wise there is shortage of wheat also under PDS.

Previous quota of allocation for rice and also the quantity of wheat may be enhanced in view of the increasing demand for wheat in the State.
