2. The short facts of these petitions are that there are two main sections of Sri Vaishnavism viz., Thenkalai and Vadakalai. The Vadakalai sect persons wear their namam or thiruman in a “U” shaped pattern with manjal or yellow and the Thenkalai sect persons wear it in a “Y” shaped pattern with kunkumam or red line. It is the case of the petitioners that there were disputes between the two Sections viz., Vadakalai and Thenkalai and one of the sections are attempting to alter the normal mark and right to worship of other section in the said temple is disturbed. Hence, these writ petitions.

3. Heard the submissions made by the learned counsel on either side and perused the materials placed before this Court. https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis 3/6 WP Nos.688 of 2014 & 23686 of 2017

On receipt of any such application, the 3rd respondent shall decide the issue in terms of Section 63E of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act and pass orders in accordance with law, as expeditiously as possible. Also liberty is granted to the aforesaid two sections, that if any dispute arises in future with regard to change of marks or customary practice, they shall submit an appropriate application before the competent authority.
