*SHRI P.R.SUNDARAM (NAMAKKAI): Hon’ble Deputy Speaker Sir, Vanakkam. I am raising this issue in this august House for the third time regarding falling of false glass ceiling and glass doors at Meenambakkam Airport in Chennai. I have spoken in length about the issue relating to falling of glass roof and panes almost 38 times at the Chennai domestic airport. Hon’ble Union Minister of Civil Aviation assured that such incidents would not recur after visiting site of the airport where the incident took place. But on 3rd and 6th of this month once again glass panels and glass doors near VIP lounge at the Chennai domestic terminal collapsed for the 48th time. Hon’ble Union Minister of Civil Aviation, in a letter addressed to me, has attributed the presence of Nickel Sulphide in the glass material leading to such collapse. Hon. Minister of Civil Aviation has also assured in the letter that over a period of ten years, these incidents would come down gradually. I don’t think the Minister’s reply as a responsible one. I urge the Union government that besides upgrading the glass panes with quality, there should be prompt action against the construction companies which were involved. Sir, I am very much concerned about the safety of the air passengers.
