SHRI Y.V. SUBBA REDDY (ONGOLE): Hon. Speaker Madam, this is regarding the need to set up a major port at Ramayapatnam in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. Union Cabinet had approved Dugarajapatnam as the location for a second Central Project on the East Coast of Andhra Pradesh in 2013 and the same was included in the Andhra Pradesh Re-organization Act to study the feasibility.
Subsequently, the Government of India appointed AECOM, Cost and Project Management Consultant, to carry out feasibility study on Dugarajapatnam and found it unviable. Visakhapatnam Port Trust which has 75 per cent equity partnership also declared it unviable and even the Government of Andhra Pradesh has come to the conclusion that it is not possible to go ahead with Dugarajapatnam port.

Prime Minister a major port can be set up at Ramayapatnam, which is just 50 kilometres from Durgarajapatnam on PPP mode. … (Interruptions) It is the most suitable location for a major port in Andhra Pradesh which can achieve many objectives such as providing employment to backward area of Prakasam district since China, Singapore and other countries have come forward to establish industries at Ramayapatnam. … (Interruptions) A super-thermal power plant near the port will give a real fillip in creating infrastructure for overall development of the port. Enough land is available; so there is no need to buy land from private people. Besides, a high-level committee of the Shipping Ministry has reported that Ramayapatnam is suitable for imports and exports. … (Interruptions)
