Title: Need to grant B-2 status to the Union Territory of Pondicherry.
PROF. M. RAMADASS (PONDICHERRY): Sir, my notice relates to conferring of B2 status on the Union Territory of Pondicherry.
Union Territory of Pondicherry, an erstwhile French colony, merged with the Indian Union in 1954. Since then, in the last fifty years, the Union Territory has made remarkable strides in all spheres of economic and social activity. Urban population of the Union Territory has also increased. Therefore, in consonance with the growing urbanisation of the Union Territory of Pondicherry, it should be conferred the B2 status.
The Home Ministry has recommended the proposal to the Ministry of Finance and it is awaiting the clearance of the Finance Ministry for a long time. There is enough justification.… (Interruptions)

PROF. M. RAMADASS : I request the Ministry of Finance to confer B2 status on the Union Territory of Pondicherry at the earliest.
