Regarding Alleged Abnormal Airfare And Lack Of Flights In Barak Valley And North ... on 26 July, 2016

Sixteenth Loksabha an> Title:    Regarding alleged abnormal airfare and lack of flights in Barak valley and North Cachar hill areas of Assam.

KUMARI SUSHMITA DEV (SILCHAR): Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I thank you for giving me this opportunity.

I want to raise the issue of sufferings of the people of Barak Valley in Assam and North Tripura due to exorbitant airfares from Silchar to Guwahati and Silchar to Kolkata. The reason behind the travel becoming extremely difficult for the people residing there is that our highways and railways get interrupted during monsoon. Today, airfare for a short distance of 182 kilometres between Silchar and Guwahati ranges between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 20,000 and the airfare for a 45-minute flight covering 517 kilometres between Silchar and Kolkata varies between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 30,000. Hence, I would request the Government to increase the number of carriers, to increase the number of flights and also to subsidise the airfares on these routes.

          Thank you.

HON. DEPUTY-SPEAKER: Kunwar Pushpendra Singh Chandel and Shri Rajeev Satav are permitted to associate with the issue raised by Kumari Sushmita Dev
