- The employment of prisoners as clerks in jail offices is forbidden. The Inspector-General may sanction the employment of an educated prisoner to copy letters, prepare rolls, write up registers and other work having no connection with warrants, remissions or money transactions. A prisoner so employed shall be provided with a place for writing inside the main gate, and under the eye of a warder. He shall not be permitted to enter the jail office unless called before the Superintendent or an inspecting officer.
