Section 243 in The Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888
243. All drains and cesspools to be properly covered and ventilated.
(1)Every drain and cesspool, whether belonging to the corporation or to any other person, shall be provided with proper traps and coverings and with proper means of ventilation.(2)The Commissioner may, by written notice, require the owner of any drain or cesspool not belonging to the corporation to provide and apply to the said drain or cesspool such trap and covering and such means of ventilation as would be provided and applied if such drain or cesspool belonged to the corporation.
