SHRI SURESH PUJARI (BARGARH):Doctors of Odisha have raised a serious alarm over abnormal rise in cancer cases in the district of Bargarh which is major part of my constituency and is Odisha’s rice bowl producing about one - fourth of the State’s 10 lakh metric tonne of Paddy annually. Out of such cases, high number of cases of stomach and blood cancer are registered every day, experts believe that the high rise of cancer cases could be due to heavy use of pesticides in agriculture. No study has yet been done to map the district’s vulnerability to the disease, suspected to be due to category II pesticide, it needs immediate attention of the Government both at the Centre and the State. Hence, I draw the attention of the Government as well as urge the Hon’ble Union Health Minister to order an inquiry into the reason of such abnormal rise of cancer cases, set up a Quality Cancer Hospital-cum-Research Centre and establish a Medical College in my Parliamentary Constituency in the greater interest of people of Odisha.
