Section 20 in The Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Rules, 1961

20. Procedure for admission of joint members and minor and persons of unsound mind inheriting the share or interest of deceased member.

(1)A society may admit [associate members] [Substituted 'joint members' by Notification No. CSL-2014/697/C.R.04/13C, dated 30.8.2014 (w.e.f. 23.12.1961).] provided they make a declaration in writing that the person whose name stands first in the share certificate shall have the right to vote and all the liabilities will be borne jointly and severally by them as provided in the Act, rules and bye-laws.
(2)In accordance with the procedure laid down in its bye-laws and these rules for admission of any member, a society may admit minors and persons of unsound mind inheriting share or interest of deceased members as its members through their legal representatives or guardians, respectively. The members so admitted will enjoy such rights and liabilities through such legal representatives or guardians as are laid down in the bye-laws of the society that are consistent with the Act and rules.
