Section 2(9) in The Arbitration And Conciliation Act, 1996

(9)Where this Part, other than clause (a) of section 25 or clause (a) of sub-section (2) of section 32, refers to a claim, it shall also apply to a counter-claim, and where it refers to a defence, it shall also apply to a defence to that counter-claim.STATE AMENDMENTS
[Uttar Pradesh.]- In Section 2 of the Arbitration and conciliation Act, 1996, in sub-section (1), for clause (e), the following clause shall be substituted, namely -"(e) 'Court' means the principal Civil Court of original jurisdiction in a district, which shall include the court of the Additional District Judge where so assigned by the District Judge and includes the High Court in exercise of its ordinary original civil jurisdiction, having jurisdiction to the decide the questions forming the subject-matter of the arbitration if the same had been the subject-matter of suit, or any Court of Small Causes.".
