- Furniture should be so designed as not to interfere with the physical development and health of the pupils. In primary schools little furniture are necessary and in no case should benches be provided, unless desks are also used. In schools where desks are used, each scholar should be allowed 18 inches of desks space and gangways of 18 inches where possible should be allowed between each desk and the walls. Desks should be arranged in parallel rows and there should be no rows at right angle to the rest. They should be so arranged that the light may come from the left.
