Section 36(1) in The Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957
(1)The Mayor or the Deputy Mayor shall hold office from the time of his election until the election of his successor in office, unless in the meantime he resigns his office as Mayor or Deputy Mayor [***] [Certain words omitted by Act 67 of 1993, section 33 (w.e.f. 1-10-1993)] or unless in the case of the Deputy Mayor he is elected as Mayor.
