ORDER
1. The report of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board dated 10.01.2023 is filed which only speaks about the community soak pits with the horizontal filter type for treating the grey water at three places viz., (i) near Anganvadi at West Street, V. Kalathur Village,
(ii) near Sengamalaiyar Temple, Vannaram Poondi of V. Kalathur Village and (iii) near the panchayat office of V. Kalathur Village.
2. There is a technology developed by the CSIR - NEERI called 'Phytorid Wastewater Treatment Technology' which appears to be cost effective and can be reached the remote villages where they do not have the Common Sewerage Treatment Plant.
3. Therefore, we direct the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board as well as the Government of Tamil Nadu to adopt the said technique after making a technical study with NEERI and the feasibility of implementing the same in places wherever there are no Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).
4. It is stated that the reduction in the treated effluent for the Total Suspended Solids (TSS) varied from 70% to 80% and the Faecal Coliform is from 90% to 97%. Besides, the treated effluent is useful for municipal gardens, fountains and irrigation. The said system also requires only approximately 35 Sq.m. for 20 m3 per day.
Page 2 of 35. In view of the above, we direct the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board as well as the State Government to study this 'Phytorid Wastewater Treatment Technology' developed by CSIR - NEERI and file a feasibility report and implement the same in the State of Tamil Nadu, if feasible.
6. Post the matter on 20.02.2023.
