Section 8(1) in The Merchant Shipping (Cargo Ship Construction And Survey) Rules, 1974
(1)In every ship of 1600 tons gross or over but of less than 5000 tons gross a self-contained source of electric power shall be provided in a position above the uppermost continuous deck or raised quarter deck and outside the machinery casings, so arranged as to ensure its functioning in the event of fire or other casualty causing failure of the main electrical installation.
