Regarding Disposal Of E-Waste -Laid. on 3 February, 2020

Seventeenth Loksabha an> Title: Regarding disposal of E-waste -laid.

SHRI ANURAG SHARMA (JHANSI) : With the advent of the Electronic/ Digital era, Computers and Mobiles are, in particular, the most sought after items in every household in India. Resultant is production of huge quantity of Electronic-Waste in our eco-system. Needless to say, the Air, water, soil and our entire surrounding is full of E-waste now having its hazardous impact on public health and environment, as a whole.

As it known, the Government have laid down certain regulations in the form of E-Waste Management and Handling Rules but given the enormity of the problem, it has very limited impact on the creators of e-waste in the country. A data shows that almost 95% of such waste is handled/recycled by illegal Kabadiwalas and thus, the process is fraught with disastrous impact on the lives of Millions of citizens particularly, kids, pregnant ladies and elderly persons.

I would like to urge upon the Government to infuse more money into the establishments for recycling of E.-waste in the country, the Management of E-waste requires to be more professional and as per existing norms. The Government should strictly give a message to the world that in no condition, their e-waste would be permitted to be dumped in the Indian Territory. The Government may think of setting up a separate authority to look into the issues relating to E-Waste so that technological progress may be kept in sync with the health concerns of citizens.
