Section 7 in The Calcutta Suburban Police Act, 1866

7. Police not to resign without notice.—

No member of the subordinate ranks of the police-force to be enrolled under this Act shall be at liberty to resign his office, or to withdraw himself from the duties thereof, unless expressly allowed so to do in writing by the Commissioner, or unless he shall have given to the Commissioner six months’ notice of his intention if a member of the mounted branch of the said force, and two months’ notice if a member of any other branch;and every member of the said force who shall so resign or withdraw himself without such leave or notice shall be liable, on the order of the Commissioner, to forfeit all arrears of pay then due to him, and, on the sentence of a Magistrate, to pay a fine not exceeding fifty rupees, or to undergo imprisonment of either description for any term not exceeding two months.
