Section 4 in The U.P. Participatory Irrigation Management Act, 2009
4. Objectives of water users' association.
- The main objective of water users' association is to bring about water users' participation in water management and also to create among the water users' a sense of ownership of irrigation system in their area. More specifically, a water users' association shall:-(i)promote and secure equitable, efficient and timely water distribution;(ii)motivate water users for adopting practices of scientific and economic use of water;(iii)encourage conjunctive use of surface and ground water;(iv)encourage intensified and diversified agricultural production system; and(v)protect environment and ecology.
