- A settlement shall remain in force for a period of thirty years:Provided that in the case of any precarious tracts or alluvial areas the Chief Commissioner may direct that the settlement shall, for such tracts or areas as may be specified, remain in force for any period less than thirty years:Provided further that when in the opinion of the Chief Commissioner a revision settlement is inexpedient or when such settlement has for any cause been delayed, the Chief Commissioner may extend the term of the settlement for the time being in force by such period as he deems fit.
