Section 28 in The Dock Workers (Safety, Health And Welfare) Regulations, 1990

28. Ladders .-(1) All metal, wooden, rope or other ladders, that are used by dock workers shall be of sound material, good construction and adequate strength for the purpose for which they are intended and shall be properly maintained and kept free from oil or other slippery material.

(2)Wooden ladders shall not be painted, but covered with clear varnish or other transparent preservative.
(3)No ladder shall be used which has- -
(a)a missing or defective rung; or
(b)any rung which depends for its support on nails, spikes or other similar fixings.
(4)Every ladder shall be inspected at suitable intervals by a responsible person, and if any defects are found in any ladder, the ladder shall be immediately taken out of service.D.-DECKS, HATCHWAYS, ETC.
