Bengal Presidency - Subsection

Section 1073(a) in Police Regulations, Bengal , 1943

(a)All covers, whether containing English or Vernacular papers, shall be opened and the letters therein stamped with the date of receipt by or in the presence of the Superintendent or the officer to whom he may delegate this duty. The date should be then initialled by the Superintendent or the officer deputed and all letters sent to office, but case diaries shall be made over to the head clerk or other clerk responsible for custody of confidential papers. The Superintendent shall be held responsible for keeping himself informed of the contents of all important papers received in his office.
