SHRI KASHIRAM RANA (SURAT): Government of Gujarat is considering setting up 33 SEZs in Gujarat. Considering locational advantages and also the availability of infrastructure in the State, it is felt that with the setting up to SEZs at various locations in the State, the effectiveness of coordination by the office of the Development Commissioner is possible only if the office of the Development Commissioner is shifted to Gandhinagar. At present this office is located at Kandia, which is one corner of the State and, therefore, cannot effectively coordinate with SEZs that are likely to be set-up in other parts of State.
As at present, the approved SEZs in the State are scattered from Jamnagar and Rajkot to Hajira, Sachin, Dahej in South Gujarat, Anjar-Mundra in Kutch and Dholera, Gandhinagar Zones in North Gujarat. It is felt that if the office of Development Commissioner is shifted to Gandhinagar & Regional Commissioner are appointed in each region, better control and monitoring can be achieved.
Looking the large number of SEZs in Gujarat, it is also necessary to open an additional DCs offices in Surat, Ahmedabad and Jamnagar for Monitoring all these SEZs, effectively. I request the Government to take appropriate steps in this regard immediately.
