Section 258 in Bihar Education Code, 1961

258. National Award for teachers.

- With a view to raising the prestige of teachers and giving public recognition to the services rendered by them, it has been decided by Government of India to hold an annual function at which certificates and token awards of Rs. 500 each may be given to the teachers who have rendered valuable services to the community in their professional life. Any teacher who fulfils the minimum qualification of twenty years recognised teaching experiences is eligible for the award. Eight awards have been allotted to this State, four are given to primary school teachers and four other to Secondary School teachers. The following criteria have been laid down to guide the selection of suitable and deserving candidates :-
(a)Teacher's qualification in the local community.
(b)Teacher's academic efficiency and the desire for improvement.
(c)Teacher's genuine interest in and love for children.
(d)Teacher's share in social life and activities.
