Seventeenth Loksabha an> Title: Regarding introduction of daily express train between Chennai and Karaikkudi and passenger trains between Thiruvarur and Karaikudi -laid. SHRI M. SELVARAJ (NAGAPATTINAM): It is more than 2 years since Tiruvarur-Karaikudi stretch was converted into broad gauge. Due to the prolonged delay in introduction of regular train services, the huge demand for train service from Tiruvarur to Karaikudi has been brought to the notice of the railway administration requesting to consider the long-pending demand that will benefit the elders, women, traders, agriculturists and fishermen of the east coast of the delta, besides providing rail service to Chennai. Despite the fact that crores of money has been spent by the railway administration for laying the new broad gauge track and creating new assets as part of gauge conversion, this BG section has remained completely non-utilised . I urge the Minister of Railways to introduce a daily express train between Chennai and Karaikudi via Tiruvarur, Pattukottai and operation of passenger trains between Thiruvarur and Karaikudi section at the earliest.
