Section 89 in The Indian Post Office Rules, 1933

89.

A foreign letter or parcel intended for insurance shall be presented at the window of the post office with the amount for which the sender wishes it to be insured clearly written, in words and figures without erasures or correction, on the cover and accompanied by such form or forms duly filled up as may be prescribed by the Director General, from time to time, in the Post Office Guide. The name and address of the addressee of a foreign letter, or parcel intended for insurance shall be written in ink on the actual cover of the article. Letters and boxes addressed to initials or directed in pencil or bearing at the time of posting erasures or corrections in the address shall not be forwarded.
