Sixteenth Loksabha an> Title: Need to put in place adequate security measures for safety of documents in Government Departments and Offices.
SHRI SULTAN AHMED (ULUBERIA): The incidents of organized theft of important Government documents and secret information including Budget inputs, minutes of a Cabinet meeting on disinvestment, detailed documents on the petroleum Ministry and other information relating to different Ministries is a matter of great concern. Frightening nexus is that night guard would ‘steal’ the documents while a peon would switch off CCTV cameras to facilitate the alleged acts of corporate espionage. It shows that government departments can easily be subverted by vested interests for corporate gains. Delhi police is probing the matter. It is almost clear that top corporate groups are alleged to have benefited from the documents that they procured through this organized system of espionage. But Government will have to respond to this espionage before the House. It is imperative to identify the actual beneficiaries of this espionage and take steps to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
