Section 170 in Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Act, 1920

170. Projected streets.

(1)The council may prepare schemes and plans of proposed public streets, showing the direction of such streets, the street alignment and building line on each side of them, their intended width and such other details as may appear desirable.
(2)The width of such proposed street shall not [ordinarily] [This word was inserted by section 98(i) of the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities (Amendment) Act, 1930 (Tamil Nadu Act X of 1930).] be less than forty feet, or in any area covered by huts, twenty feet.[xxx] [The proviso to sub-section (2) was omitted by section 98(ii) of the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities (Amendment) Act, 1930 (Tamil Nadu Act X of 1930).]
(3)It shall be the duty of the council to lay out public streets in areas covered by huts, so far as may be practicable, both for the purpose of securing proper ventilation for huts in such areas, and in view to the contingency of buildings being erected therein.
(4)When any plan has been prepared under sub-section (1), the street to which it refers shall be deemed to be a projected public street, and the provisions of section 168 shall apply to all buildings, so far as they stand across the street alignment or building line of the projected street.
