SHRI DNV. SENTHILKUMAR S. (DHARMAPURI): Vanakkam, Sir. First, we the people of Tamil Nadu, through this House, would like to register and convey our deepest sympathies to the people of Assam who have been affected in the recent flood.
Sir, this House must be knowing that the demand for the release of seven persons related to late Thiru Rajiv Gandhi’s case is pending for a very, very long time. The judiciary has directed the State Government to take a decision on the release of seven persons – Nalini, Murugan, Perarivalan, Robert, Santhan, Jaikumar and Ravichandran. Accordingly, the State Cabinet has recommended the release of the seven persons and directed the State Governor to exercise his power under article 161 to release the seven persons. It has been pending from 9th September, 2018. So, the demand for release of these seven persons has been pending for the last nine months and nine days.
I would like to know from the Ministry, what inhibits the Governor from taking this decision? This is a mental agony to those seven persons including that woman. We would like to know when the Governor would be able to take a decision to release them.
