Need To Conduct Inquiry Into Suspected Suicide Of A Dalit Student Of Jnu. on 15 March, 2017
Sixteenth Loksabha an> Title: Need to conduct inquiry into suspected suicide of a dalit student of JNU.
SHRI V. ELUMALAI (ARANI): Madam Speaker, I have given a notice to move an Adjournment Motion regarding the death of a student, Muthu Krishnan, who was studying in JNU, Delhi.
Madam, Muthu Krishnan was basically from Salem, Tamil Nadu. He was a dalit student and was pursuing M. Phil at JNU. He did his Master’s Degree at the University of Hyderabad. He was active in the ‘Justice for Rohit Vemula’ movement. He was also a part of Ambedkar Student’s Association in that University. Even though police sources say that there was no evidence that he killed himself due to any issue at the University, there seems to be some caste discrimination against dalits at the JNU.
It appears that there is also discrimination against students from the South. It is evident from the fact that another student from AIIMS, Dr. Saravanan also died less than a year ago under mysterious circumstances. We also saw death of Rohit Vemula in a strange way.
Considering all this, I request the HRD Ministry to order a probe into these deaths. I also request the Government to instruct the police to take necessary action to have an impartial inquiry and to bring out the truth behind these deaths. Thank you. … (Interruptions)

SHRI KODIKUNNIL SURESH : Madam, a 28-year old M.Phil. student of Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi committed suicide at a friend's house in South Delhi on Monday. The student Muthu Krishnan belonged to the Scheduled Caste from the State of Tamil Nadu. After the suicidal death of Rohit Vemula, a dalit research student in Central University in Hyderabad one year back, this incident is also very much shocking for the nation.
Three days before his death, Muthu Krishnan put up a Facebook post condemning the Hyderabad University's alleged role in dalit scholar student Rohit Vemula's suicide last year and criticised JNU's new admission policy. A dalit student, Muthu Krishnan had also recounted several instances, where he had faced discrimination, through his other Facebook post.
Madam, his father Jeevanandham is demanding a CBl inquiry and registering of a case under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. This is a very important and serious matter. After Rohit Vemula, again a dalit student has been harassed on the basis of caste, discriminated and found hanging. … (Interruptions)
