श्री राशिद अल्वी : अध्यक्ष महोदय, बनारस यूनिवर्सिटी एक सेंट्रल यूनिवर्सिटी है। बनारस यूनिवर्सिटी ने सरहदी गांधी जी, रवीन्द्र नाथ टैगोर जी, नेल्सन् मंडेला जी को डग्रियां दी हैं। डा. साहब को डिग्री दे तो मुझे कोई एतराज नहीं है लेकिन ऐसा कभी नहीं हुआ कि जिसने राम मंदिर के लिए कोशिश की, जिसने गौशाला के लिए कोशिश की, जिसने स्लॉटर हाउसिज को बंद करने की कोशिश की, उन लोगों को डग्रियां दी जायें, इस पर मुझे एतराज है। ऐसा पहली बार हुआ है और इससे यूनिवर्सिटी की हैसियत और इज्जत घटेगी। मैं बहुत अदब के साथ कहना चाहता हूं कि जिस मामले में क्रमिनल केस कोर्ट के अंदर पैंडिंग हो उस मामले के अंदर अगर D.Sc. की डिग्री दी जायेगी तो इससे देश के कानून का मजाक उड़ाया जायेगा। सरकार से मेरी प्रार्थना है कि यह बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण विषय है और सरकार इस विषय का सीरियसली नोट ले।
