The Punjab Abolition of Whipping Act, 1957Punjab Act 25 of 1957Received the assent of the President on the 20th July, 1957, and was first published in the Punjab Government Gazette Extraordinary dated the 29th July, 1957.For Statement of Objects and Reasons, see Punjab Gazette Extraordinary dated the 1st October 1956, page 654.An Act to provide for the abolition of whipping as a punishment and to amend the existing State Laws for this purposeBe it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Punjab in the Eighth Year of the Republic of India as follows :-

1. Short title.

- This Act may be called the Punjab Abolition of Whipping Act, 1957.

2. Abolition of Whipping.

(1)The punishment of whipping as provided in any law with respect to any other matters specified in the State and Concurrent Lists of the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India is hereby abolished.
(2)If at the commencement of this Act any sentence of whipping imposed upon any offender by a Court or other authority under any law referred to in sub-section (1) has not been executed for any reasons, whether wholly or partially, the offender shall be dealt with in the manner provided in section 395 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, as if that section had not been repealed by the Abolition of Whipping Act, 1955 (Act No. 44 of 1955).
