SHRI M.V.V. SATYANARAYANA (VISAKHAPATNAM): Thank you, hon. Speaker, Sir, for giving me an opportunity. This is my maiden speech.
Firstly, I would like to express my wholehearted thanks to Shri Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy garu for giving me the opportunity to be a Member of this august House. I also express my sincere thanks to the people of my Visakhapatnam Constituency for having reposed faith in me. The matter, which I wish to raise here is an important issue pertaining to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
Sir, the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) popularly known as Vizag Steel Plant, was established in the year 1971. The RINL is the only largest steel plant in my State of Andhra Pradesh, which was set up on the coastline in an area of 22,266 acres. The country's first coastal steel Plant Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), which had a huge production capacity of about 7.2 million tonnes per annum in the last fiscal year is facing a challenge of raw material insecurity as it does not own any iron ore mine.
It is learnt that the management of Vizag Steel Plant had recently initiated talks with the Odisha Government for earmarking a specific mine for it. Besides, it is taking efforts to restart some of the mines of its subsidiary Orissa Minerals Development Company (OMDC) where leases lapsed long back and have not yet been renewed. The RINL management and the Government of Andhra Pradesh have requested the Union Government / Ministry of Mines to allocate permanent captive iron ore mines to this steel plant. However, no positive action has been taken so far.
Hon. Speaker, Sir, through you, I would like to request the hon. Prime Minister to personally intervene in this matter and direct the Ministry of Mines to immediately allocate captive iron ore mines to RINL, so that the production of this Navratna steel industry is not affected. Thank you very much, Sir.
