SHRI P.R. SUNDARAM (NAMAKKAL): Hon. Speaker, this is the first Session of Parliament after the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. I feel very happy and proud to say that our hon. Puratchi Thalaivi Amma has won for the consecutive second term as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
It is a historic success in the last 32 years in Tamil Nadu and this victory has been given by the people as a reward for the untiring works and effective governance of our hon. Amma.
Retrieving Katchatheevu and restoring traditional fishing rights of Indian fishermen is a long-standing issue for the people Tamil Nadu and they want it to be reclaimed from Sri Lanka.
The hon. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Puratchi Thalaivi Amma had filed a case in the Supreme Court against the ceding of Katchatheevu to Sri Lanka. At that time the ruling DMK government did not care about the petition filed before the Supreme Court. I want to record on the floor of this House about the injustices done to the people of Tamil Nadu by the DMK party which was responsible for the current situation.
I urge upon the Union Government to pass a Resolution on retrieval of Katchatheevu by both Houses of Parliament at the earliest and take steps to abrogate the 1974 and 1976 agreements.
