It is very unfortunate that Central Government is preparing a Cabinet Note recommending for closure of several CPSUs of the country. NITI Aayog is preparing a roadmap for ailing public sector undertakings and had earlier identified 26 sick Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) for closure, of which seven received Cabinet Note.
These include Hindustan Cable, Tyre Corporation, HMT Watches, Birds Jute and Export Limited (BJEL) and Central Inland Water Transport Corporation.
It is unfortunate that Aayog has also identified 12 more CPSEs for strategic sale where the Central Public Sector Enterprises are meant to serve certain social causes.
Sir, 117 years old country’s first pharmaceutical company, Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Works Ltd. Is one of the prime PCSEs of the Government for sale. Bridge and Roof Company Limited, which hsa registered an average profit of Rs.32.83 crore for the last six years is also in the target of strategic disinvestment. Most surprisingly, special steel plant unit, Alloy Steel Plant, the first Indian producer which adds muscle to the “Make in India” campaign for indigenoius production of speciality products to meet Defence needs are also in the process of strategic sale plan of the Government. The fact is that all these three are from West Bengal.
Bridge & Roof Company (India) Ltd. is serving the construction industry for more than 97 years with enviable track record in making profit for years together, paying dividend to the Government of India.....(Interruptions).
Keeping in mind thenecessity of the existence of Central Public Sector Organizations for addressing social causes and tremendous scope of direct and indirect employment dependency, I would request the Central Government, through you, the Finance Ministry to withdraw the decision to close down the Public Sector Organizations of the country and to think for revival and restructure by conducting a well-organized comprehensive research study to identify the areas of business, where these units can successfully operate and grow.
I would like to speak for a minute in Bengali. I am from West Bengal where Bengali is spoken.
* Lastly, I would like to say a few words in Bengali. Kindly allow. Bengali in my own language. The land of West Bengal is a holy land and I come from that state. Sri Sri Ramkrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda, Sir Ashutosh Mukhopadhyay, Smt. Mamata Benerjee, our Hon. Chief Minister were all born in Bengal. Therefore, such a state should never be deprived, this is my urge to the Central Government.
