DR. BOORA NARSAIAH GOUD (BHONGIR): Madam, I thank you and at the same time, I am sorry I was not here when I was called.
Today, when I see the newspapers and the magazines about the performance of the Road Transport Ministry, I find that earlier the target for national highways used to be between seven kilometres to 12 kilometres per day but now the target is 25 kilometres per day. When Shri Gadkariji has fixed that target, it really makes us very happy.
There is a strong correlation between Sansad and Sarak. Today, my parliamentary constituency has got 300 kilometres of national highways. Since the time I became the MP, I brought it to the notice of the Ministry and also the Chairman, NHAI about the two critical points. When the national highways was laid, it has not followed the security protocols because of which 49 accidents occurred with 23 mortality. In other places, there are almost 15 mortality on the same pot. It was happening on the key junction from the main city unto the highways. I had brought this to the notice of the Minister as well as the Chairman, NHAI. They have agreed with me and also proposed that vehicular underpass need to be taken up. They sent the agency also for this. The Technical Committee has seen it twice and made an estimate of Rs.7 crore. The fund also exists for this. About fifty per cent of my time has gone but it has not been implemented.
I would like to request the Minister to take it up as early as possible. Every time when I travel about 300 kilometres in my constituency, I see at least one or two accidents occurring. Now, I am keeping a medical kit in my car. I am telling this sincerely and I am not exaggerating. I am seeing at least one accident daily. Being a doctor, I carry a medical kit. As recently as one week before, one electrician was crossing on the scooter and met with an accident. I had to revive him and sent to the hospital. My request would be, through you, to take it up as early as possible without further delay.
