37. The posts of Assistant Station Masters in the scale of Rs.1200-2040/- are filled by direct recruitment through Railway Recruitment Boards to the extent of fifty percent. The balance fifty percent is filled by promotion of departmental employees. The higher grades in the said cadre are filled by promotion from the immediately lower grde. Twenty five percent of the posts in the scale of Rs.1600- 2600/- are, however, filled by direct recruitment of Traffic Apprentices.
