The State is in appeal before this Court against the award dated 9.8.2004 passed by learned Additional District Judge, Sonepat for reduction of the compensation awarded to the land owners.

Briefly, the facts are that land was acquired vide notification dated 17.5.1990 issued under Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 (for short `the Act) for the development and utilization as residential, commercial area in Sector 12, Sonepat. The Land Acquisition Collector (for short, `the Collector') assessed the value of the acquired land at Rs.2 lakhs per acre. Aggrieved against the same, the land owners filed objections which were referred to the learned Additional District Judge, Sonepat, who keeping in view the material placed on record by the parties, determined the value of the land on the left side of the Sonepat-Bahalgarh Road at Rs.125/- per sq. yards and on the right side of the Sonepat Bahalgarh Road, at Rs.150/- per sq. yards.
