MR. SPEAKER: Hon. Members, I have to inform the House with profound sorrow of the passing away of two of our colleagues Shri Jitendra Prasada and Shrimati Nisha Chaudhary and also eight of our former colleagues namely, Sarvashri Yashwant Singh Kushwah, Ram Kanwar Berwa, Bhawani Lal Verma, Dr. Sushila Nayar, Shri G. Lakshmanan, Shrimati Vijaya Raje Scindia, Shri V.N. Gadgil and Shri Manubhai Shah.
Shri Jitendra Prasada was a sitting Member of Lok Sabha representing Shahajahanpur Parliamentary constituency of Uttar Pradesh. He was also a Member of Fifth, Seventh and Eighth Lok Sabha from 1971 to 1977, and 1980 to 1989. He also served as a Member of Rajya Sabha from 1994 to 1999.
Earlier, Shri Prasada was a Member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council during 1970-71. Hailing from an agriculturist family, Shri Jitendra Prasada was an active social worker. He worked relentlessly for the upliftment of poor, downtrodden and weaker sections of the society.
A renowned and popular political worker, Shri Prasada was also an able parliamentarian. He was a Member of various Parliamentary Committees. An ardent social worker, he lost no opportunity in ventilating in the House the problems faced by the common man.
A widely travelled person, Shri Prasada was a Member of Indian Delegation to the United Nations General Assembly during 1983.
Shri Jitendra Prasada passed away on 16th January, 2001 at New Delhi at the age of 63 after a brief illness.
Shrimati Nisha Chaudhary was a sitting Member of Lok Sabha representing Sabarkantha Parliamentary constituency of Gujarat. She was also a Member of Eleventh and Twelfth Lok Sabha from 1996 to 1999.
An able parliamentarian, Shrimati Chaudhary was a Member of Committee on Defence from 1996 to 1998; Committee on Communications; Joint Committee on the Empowerment of Women; Consultative Committee attached with the Ministry of Science and Technology during 1998-99; Committee on Home Affairs from 1999 to 2001 and Consultative Committee to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from 2000 till her death.
