Since the reforms began under the stewardship of the present Prime Minister in 1991, till date, reforms have undoubtedly benefited the rich. This is not a communist who is making a statement in the House of the People; I am speaking of the survey conducted by eminent economists of the country. The picture is absolutely horrible.
Prof. Abhijit Banerjee, known for his fame in economics, conducted a survey. It says that the incomes of 0.01 per cent of the top most rich of the country have increased by 285 times during the reforms period under Dr. Manmohan Singh, during the reforms period under Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Shri L.K. Advani and during the reforms which are being carried out now. During this period 0.01 per cent of the richest people of the country had their incomes increase by 285 times and a little less rich, one per cent of the richest, had their incomes increase by 70 times.
