Why has the police taken such an excessive action against a sitting Member of this House? Forget the normal police excesses in various States. I do not want to drag all those issues into this issue. I would request the hon. Deputy Prime Minister that he must keep some of those officers under suspension. Why did they go to the extent of arresting three people who were in the house of Shri Devendra Prasad Yadav today? Such fabricated cases are being lodged only to strengthen the excessive action taken by the police against the peaceful demonstrators. We were also in administration. We know how to run the administration at the State level and at the Central level. The very object of going to Shri Devendra Prasad Yadav’s house and arresting three people who were inside the house is to register a fabricated case and justify the excessive action by the police. I am sorry to say that this is something unheard of. I demand that the hon. Deputy Prime Minister should suspend those officers pending inquiry by the House Committee or by the Government, whichever mechanism is going to be there. That is what I want. I was a witness and I am sorry for all these incidents.

MR. SPEAKER: All hon. Members who had given notices have been permitted to speak. A few leaders would also like to make their statements on this. I would request those leaders who would be allowed to speak to be brief. That would be my request.

SHRI PRIYA RANJAN DASMUNSI : Sir, on my behalf and on behalf of our party, we sincerely express our concern.

We have heard the statement made by our dear colleague Shri Devendra Prasad Yadav today. He had invited all of us. I was preoccupied elsewhere yesterday. He invited me personally to attend the rally. On our behalf, our representative Shri Rajo Singh had been there. We have heard everything. I sincerely and very strongly feel that it is not a matter really with Shri Devendra Prasad Yadav alone. The representatives of this House are elected by the people not just today but right from 1952.

Here, Shri Devendra Prasad Yadav has stated that he gave advance intimation to the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Shri Vijay Goel, who extended discourtesy. He did not respond and try to understand even as to what Shri Devendra Prasad Yadav was thinking. It is a discourtesy not only to Shri Devendra Prasad Yadav but also to Parliament, the leaders of the people in this country and our democratic system. Therefore, we strongly disapprove and condemn this callous, casual and frivolous attitude of this Government.

I demand a House Committee be immediately set up. After that the Government can take whatever action they like. They should instantly suspend the erring officials and should release those who have been detained in the custody since morning knowing full well that hon. Member, Shri Devendra Prasad Yadav may raise these things in the House.

SHRI SOMNATH CHATTERJEE : Sir, it is almost a mockery that this House was discussing the farmers’ issue and a farmers’ delegation was being so ruthlessly dealt with by this Government. It is a matter of great concern also. Hon. Member, Shri Devendra Prasad Yadav is not only a very respected person but, if I may say so without meaning disrespect to anybody, a very sober and a very respected Member of Parliament. We have had the privilege of seeing him both as a Minister and as a Member of Parliament. He is a very respected Member. He is facing and feeling so much of agony today. I would have expected that before he raised the matter in the House, the Government of India should have come out and tendered an apology to the whole House and to hon. Member, Shri Devendra Prasad Yadav for what had happened yesterday.
