In S. Nagaraj and Others v State of Karnataka and Another, Common Cause, A Registered Society v Union of India and M.M. Thomas v State of Kerala, the Supreme Court held that the High Court as a Court of Record has plenary jurisdiction and has the power and duty to correct any error apparent on the face of its record; and the power of the High Court under Article 226 is a plenary power not fettered by any legal restraints; and if the High Court in exercise of these powers has committed a mistake, it has the plenary power to correct its own mistake, by reviewing its orders.
